#36, Mushroom Sandwich, Northern Spy Food Company

This one was great! It was a super fancy grilled cheese with mushrooms and arugula in there for some extra warm, hearty, earthiness. I feel like the chef at Northern Spy probably went through a couple versions of this sandwich before finding one that hit all the right balances and flavors.

This is probably the most substantial vegetarian sandwich we’re encountered so far. The mushrooms were so hearty, filling, and flavorful, I didn’t even think about what I could have added, and didn’t miss meat at all. 

All together a great showing from Northern Spy, and a delicious way to conclude the 2011 portion of the Sandwich Project. See ya!

First Bite

I agree with Eva; I surprisingly didn’t miss meat in this sandwich. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the quality and quantity of mushrooms in the sandwich were fantastic. Put enough oil and butter on something and it tastes great.

I would definitely eat this sandwich again, as well as give a shot to whatever else is on the menu. Chicken and egg looked good.
