Twenty-Six Weeks Later

Half a year in Los Angeles. I’ve been told multiple times by multiple people that I think too much, but after thinking a whole lot I’m not really sure what to say here, I just feel obligated that since I started a count of how long I’ve been on the Best Coast I should continue it.

Don’t click ‘read more’ if you want to read something coherent. Don’t front porch your work.

I Have Lived in Los Angeles Twenty Weeks Today

  • If we’ve spoken about it recently, I’ve probably used the phrase “it’s growing on me!” like LA was some sort of cancer. What I meant was, “I’m getting used to it!”
  • The couple in front of me at the grocery today forgot their Ralph’s card. I lent them mine.
  • I’ve driven the PCH and the 5 and the 101 and all those other numbered streets.
  • I am now familiar with more than one neighborhood bar (sorry Mom).
  • I’m still not buying into this whole avocado thing people are on about.
  • I’m realizing that this will be my first fall not on the east coast. Fall is likely my favorite season, and I’m not going to be there when the leaves turn, the air becomes brisk, and everyone starts wearing jackets again. I can pick a Halloween costume that doesn’t need to keep me warm when I walk home. My birthday will be celebrated in Pacific Standard Time. Football will be on in the mornings. I’m realizing I’m going to miss a lot of things. “Miss” as in VERB: fail to attend; be absent from and also “miss” as in VERB: to yearn for; to ache for; to pine for. Hm.
  • I need to buy a new bathing suit.

I Have Lived in Los Angeles Sixteen Weeks Yesterday

  • I don’t have a list of things to talk about this time.
  • The biggest idea to take away from this post - I’ve settled in so much that I forgot to write something yesterday about living here. If that’s not indicative of what’s going on with me, I don’t know what is.
  • I bought new sunglasses.

I Have Lived in Los Angeles Twelve Weeks Today

  • I went to the beach once or twice.
  • I’d categorize my v-neck wearing as “often.”
  • I can walk around the apartment with the lights off, no problem.
  • No, I haven’t eaten In-N-Out even once since I moved here.
  • I’m still getting used to seeing the Hollywood sign in everyday life.
  • My sunglasses are not cool enough for California.
  • I’ve had a friend come visit.
  • I’m trying not to forget what the east coast looks like.

I Have Lived in Los Angeles Eight Weeks Today

  • I own a library card.
  • I bought a cactus.
  • I have taken the subway twice.
  • My mailbox is empty.
  • I could use some more picture frames.
  • Meal preparation is becoming routine.
  • My bills get paid on time, thank you very much.
  • I am still not lonely.

I Have Lived in Los Angeles Four Weeks Today

  • The water heater is broken again.
  • My mailbox is busted.
  • I would like a desk.
  • I have swiffered the whole apartment twice so far.
  • Food supplies are optimal.
  • I miss the NYC subway system.
  • I have had to gas up my car only once.
  • I am not lonely.

I’ll update again in another month.
